Deciding to take a cruise vacation can prove to be the most exciting and least expensive vacation you can find. Whether you choose an ocean cruise or a more intimate river cruise, it’s hard to beat cruising for destination selection, world-class entertainment and of course fine dining.
If you have
never cruised or even considered a cruise vacation, it’s probably because of
several reasons. You may have heard stories of people becoming seasick. Dr. Art Drisken, Royal Caribbean
Cruises Ltd. Chief Medical Officer says, “most new cruisers have no problems
with seasickness on our ships, due to their size, navigational avoidance of
storms, and ship stabilizers.” Other
cruise line officials and veteran cruisers echo that assertion. Even if you are
prone to motion sickness, medical science has perfected medications delivered
through patches, wristbands and orally that will ease or prevent motion
sickness.
Another
common reason some people give for refusing to consider a cruise is “I don’t
like to be confined in small quarters, or I’m afraid I’ll be bored.” Many of my first-time clients worry they will be stuck in their cabin with nothing to do.
Nothing could be further from the truth as I will explain in just a moment.
Comfortable Accommodations
Cabins or
staterooms range from inside rooms with no window or a port-hole for those on a
tight budget to elaborate family suites and everything in between. Most
cruisers prefer either an ocean-view with or without a small private balcony.
Many guests, on the other hand, find that there is
truly so much to do on board that the less expensive inside cabin suits them to
a tee since they don’t plan on spending much time in their cabin. They’re only there to shower, sleep and
change clothes.
Exquisite Dining
Meals are included in the cruise fare, so it’s
impossible to go hungry!
One of the
most popular activities on board ship is enjoying dinner in the formal dining
rooms. There you will find a wide range of entrees, side dishes, and desserts prepared by extraordinary
chefs. If you prefer a more casual
atmosphere, search out the ship’s buffet, usually open for all three meals
offering a wide variety of popular food items.
You may also enjoy the specialty restaurants which offer more
specialized menus in a more intimate setting. There is a slight upcharge for
these onboard eateries and reservations are a must.
If you had a
long day or just feel like dining in your stateroom, you can always order room
service just like in a hotel. Each cabin is also
stocked with a mini-bar offering snacks and drinks at a reasonable
charge.
World Class Entertainment
There is
always something and exciting to do on a cruise.
Onboard
entertainment has the feel of Las Vegas or New York City. From stage shows to concerts to ice shows, comedy, music
or drama; you name it, and you will
likely find it on board each night.
Piano bars,
discotheques, karaoke bars and quiet hideaways can be found all over the ship. Most
cruise lines offer supervised fun activities for young children as well as
teens and young adults. And of course, the casino offers games of chance from
slot machines to blackjack tables, roulette wheels,
and poker. There is literally something
for everyone.
One of my
favorite reasons for taking a cruise vacation is that I can choose day to day
and moment by moment whether I want to be busy with all the activities or if I
just want to relax by the pool, read a good book or just hang out with friends
and family. That’s the great thing about cruising; it’s impossible to be bored
unless you want to be! And the
ship’s staff will be right there to wait on you and see to your every need!
Attentive but unobtrusive guest
service.
Once aboard ship,
you will be assigned a cabin steward who will see to all of your needs,
including making up your room, stocking the mini-bar and even a surprise or two
along the way. Their job is to see to it you haven’t a care in the world and
just enjoy your vacation.
The dining
room wait staff, activities directors and every crew member on board are also there
to serve you, and they do an outstanding
job.
Every port
of call offers unique experiences ranging from shopping and sightseeing to more
physical activities if that’s your thing. Or, if you are worn out from a night
of partying or just need a day of rest, you can stay on the ship and enjoy all
the amenities.
When you
consider all the perks and benefits such as all-inclusive food and
entertainment, the very best dining experiences and amazing guest services,
cruising is about the most economical and fun vacation available.
